Blog Post 2: X

Did you know Twitter's hashtag feature was introduced in 2007 despite the app being launched in 2006?
Can you imagine Twitter without its famous hashtags?

Hi guys, welcome back to my blog where today we'll be discussing the social media platform X.

X formerly known as Twitter is a social networking site where users communicate using short posts know as tweets. Tweets can be made in the form of texts (at a maximum of 280 characters per tweet) , links, pictures and videos.

Exploring X as a first-time user is not quite as straightforward as I had hoped. While setting up an account was the standard process, navigating the interface and tailoring it to my interests proved to be tricky. The searches I made did not garner the expected results. I did enjoy the trending section that allowed me to easily find topics that were being talked about and see other's opinions on it. It was definitely a great way to promote public conversation and highlight specific issues.

What Makes it Different?

X is known for and distinguished by its real time communication, concise posts format and the general openness of the platform. It is quite fast paced and simple in design when compared to Instagram and TikTok. There's less focus on visuals and aesthetic which promotes the sharing of raw feelings and thoughts through text. It is used for quick engagement and updates making it essential for breaking news, live events, real-time conversations and promotional activities. It is where a brand's personality, voice and humour is allowed to shine through.

The Power Of Interaction: How Businesses Can Use X

Businesses can use twitter to:

  • Provide updates and announce events- Utilizing hashtags to promote giveaways, special offers and launches can extend your reach and ensure you capture your target audience. This engages your audience and attract new one as well.
  • Monitor trends- It is important to be aware of what your competitors are doing and the trends that are currently active. Joining conversations that relate to your industry can help you achieve this.
  • Interact with customers- Responding to customer concerns and providing direct support can establish relationships and improve customer satisfaction.

Carter Wilkerson tweeted Wendy's asking how many tweets he would need to receive a year of free chicken nuggets. Wendy's engaged and replied 18 million, spurring a challenge.

Carter set out determined to achieve this goal with nuggets at the finish line.

This post accumulated a lot of attention from users as well as companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Google and other businesses supporting his goals. To this day, this post remains as one of the top 5 most retweeted post at 3.1 million retweets

A hashtag was started #NuggsForCarter
